A Credible Tale of Yokai, Robots, and the Lunar Tourist

I just found about this really neat looking game, A Credible Tale of Yokai, Robots, and the Lunar Tourist.  It is a throwback to SNES style JRPGs and the concept is awesome.

In A Credible Tale of Yokai, Robots, and the Lunar Tourist you get to explore a hand-drawn 3D world based on a classic Japan.  You get to build and defend a village from invaders with a real-time combat system.

I highly suggest watching the video posted for a better understanding of what the game is like.

You can actually play the pre-alpha demo of A Credible Tale of Yokai, Robots, and the Lunar Tourist already if you have a PC or a Mac.  You can find the pre-alpha builds for PC here and the Mac version here.  It seems they are attempting to hit a wide range of systems with the release such as PC, Mac, Linux and XBOX.

Backstory of A Credible Tale of Yokai, Robots, and the Lunar Tourist

Long, long ago humans and spirits lived together peacefully. There was no famine, no war, and no disease. The people of that time lived simple, happy lives. But over time, greed and corruption overtook them. They began fighting over wealth and power, and abused the resources of the Mountains, Earth, and Sea for their own selfish gains. Conflicts began to form between the kami (spirits) who protected nature and the human warlords who sought to exploit it. Many lives were lost, and eventually the kami disappeared.

A lot has changed since that time. People now live in fear, never daring to venture past village walls after dusk for fear of attacks by evil yokai (supernatural beings). But even within the depths of fear, a glimmer of hope remains. Legend foretells the coming of a golden-haired hero clad in a blue kimono who will descend from the sky to guide people toward the path of balance — and restore peace. . . .

A Credible Tale of Yokai, Robots, and the Lunar Tourist, seems like a very ambitious approach to the genre that is JRPGs.  It attempts to combine many aspects of other games into this platform and if it turns out nearly as well as it seems on text I think it will be a highly successful game.
